To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the ongoing state of public roads across Barbados.
For years, many of our roads have been left in severe disrepair, posing risks to motorists, pedestrians, and public transport operators alike. Some have become less than a cart road with public services such as Mail carriers being unable to navigate their mode of transport through. Despite repeated complaints and obvious visible deterioration, nothing was done.
It is therefore difficult to ignore that recent patching of a few of these long-neglected roads (notably in Fisher Pond on the 28th January, the day before the political meeting in Lammings) has only taken place now, immediately following the calling of general elections. While any improvement is welcome, the timing gives the unfortunate impression that routine road maintenance is being treated as a political convenience rather than an essential public service.
Road infrastructure is not a seasonal or electoral issue. It directly affects public safety, vehicle maintenance costs (private and government services), emergency response times, and the overall quality of life for citizens. Addressing these problems only when elections are imminent undermines public trust and raises serious questions about long-term planning and accountability.
I urge the relevant authorities to commit to a consistent, transparent, and proactive road maintenance programme—one that serves the people of Barbados at all times, not only during election periods.
I trust that this concern will be taken seriously and that meaningful, sustained action will follow.
Yours sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen
